Ruby Sapphire and Emerald Guide

This is guide to Pokemon Saphire Ruby and Emerald. When I first had Sapphire version game, I mastered it.

I wanted to share how to master it if you too are in seek of finishing one of these games.

Like I mentioned I love the Hoenn region so I have always wanted other people to like it too.

So please read on on how to defeat the game. In the beginning u will be greeted by a man named professor Birch . He comes first on the screen asking you if you are a boy or girl [if you choose a boy your rival will be a girl named May and if you choose a girl your rival will be a boy named brendan ], what is your name and showing you what is a pokemon then after that you will be on a moving truck . When the truck stops you will see a flash of light .Go near the flash of light you will come out to a town called Little Root. When you come down of the truck the first person you will meet your mother . She will take you inside your house and ask you to fix a clock upstairs on your room brought by your dad who is the petulburg gym leader. After fixing the clock come down and go out side the house . There will be a person blocking you from going outside the town since you dont have any pokemon with you. So just go to he house near by that's about the same size as yours and go inside it and then go up. Talk to your rival (May/Brendan) abd she will leave after a quick chat. Now you can go out of the house and walk all the way up until the little girl asks for help 'coz Proffesor Birch is being chased by a wild Pokemon. Just go up to the yellow bag and A close up to the bag will appear. The bag contains 3 Pokeballs containing 3 different Pokemon. In the whole game I would pick Mudkip. It has many advantages throgh out the whole game. It is the blue and orange Mud fish Pokemon. Just Go up to its name and select Yes. Then your first Pokemon battle will start. Just keep using the attack tackle or if you chose any of the others then for treecko, pound and for torchic use scratch. You should eventually win but even if you begin to lose the Pokemon will flee causing the Proffesor to present with which ever Pokemon you chose. Then he will ask you to go battle May/Brendan and battle her/him on route 103. Just say Yes or he will repeat the question again and again. Then follow the route up through the grass all the way to a place called Oldale town. Make sure to train your Pokemon on the way. Talk to the lady in in a blue attire and she will give you a free Potion (healing item). Go inside the Pokemon Center (PC) to heal your Pokemon (dont use your Potion to heal), and then go to the computer. Click on [your name]'s PC and open it. You will find another potion there. Withdraw it and then get out of the city to the north. (To your west is an idiot who claims to have found a rare Pokemon's footprint. Go all the way north only to find your rival)

She/He(your rival) will have a level five starter and will have a advantage over you. if you choose Mudkip your rival will have a treecko, if you choose a Treecko your rival will have a torchic and if you choose Torchic your rival will have a mudkip. Beat your rival and when ur fighting ur rival, the potion could help you . After beating ur rival come down back to little root town to the lab to get ur pokedex and pokeballs from prof birch and ur rival. When you come out of the lab ur mother will be waiting for u near the house to give u the runing shoes (press B and move to run). Now go back to oldale town the person who was sketching would have finished and will leave way to go left. Go through that and you will come to route 102. Keep going left on route 102 there will be many trainers and you can get some berries .Then you will enter petalburg city. The first thing you do in petulburg is go to the gym (A gym is when there certain strong trainers and a gym leader. Each gym has its own type and if you beat the gym you recieve an award of a badge and a TM and you can also use the relevant HM out side of battle any where . There are 8 gyms and if you get all the 8 badges you can go battle the pokemon league). There will be a man standing there who is your father .You dont battle him now since he is a lot stornger then you . After you have 4 gym badges you can battle him. Talk to him he will tell some stuff and then after he finishes a boy from outside named Wally will come in and tell that he wants a pokemon has a friend to play with since he was going to verdanturf town to his uncles house . Ur father will give him a level 8 Zigzagoon and a poke ball to catch his pokemon .Ur father will ask you to go with him too. The game will automatically help him catch the pokemon and you have to see it. After he catches his first pokemon (ralts) u both will go back to the gym and after Wally goes out of the gym ur father will tell you about the city of the first gym and the gym leaders name (rustboro city, gym leader roxanne). Your goal is to now go and reach Rustboro city and defeat her. So heal up and then leave this city by taking the path to the north western path called the Petalburg woods. You cannot jump over the fences so you wil have to go through the grass battling trainers and Pokemon. Hre and thre you will see small trees and if you will see that they can be cut down. This is only Possible after you get the first gym badge and the attack cut. Another thing in this forest is that the wild Pokemon are great to train with. Do if you chose Torchic which learns an attack called Double Kick at Lv. 16. That is the level when Torchic evolves. Make sure you evolve it before you reach the gym. Inside the woods you will also encounter a battle with Team Aqua/ Magma. Be ready to battle them. The trainer in not tough so just thrash him and get out. Once you get out of the Woods you will see a few trainers easily avoidable if you do not want to battle. Else you could battle them for a few Experience points (The blue bar that increases in a Pokemon Battle) and some levels up. You will see a few berries and a boy as soon as you get out of the woods. Make sure you talk to him. He will give u a TM called Bullet Seed. If by any chance you caught a Shroomish go to your bag, Go to TM/HM case and select bullet seed. Teach it to your Shroomish but so not forget to train it as you have used a perfectly good attack on this Pokemon. Otherwise you can use it on another Pokemon. You will get others at higher levels as you go through the game. Now just cross the bridge get the few berries and go into the city.

Rustboro city is full of people who give you items. First go to a building with the metal sign named "Cutters house". Get the HM cut from the man inside the house. Next go to the "Trainer School". Inside the teacher will give you a Quick Claw. Make your Starter (The one you picked from the bag) hold the Quick Claw by Selecting and Giving it to the starter. Then there will be a tall-ish building (Not the orange one, Just below it). Go in and into the second floor. A little kid there will give you a Premier Ball. This is a ball that can be obtained for free automatically every time u buy 10 pokeballs. These are not very effective for catching but I think can be sold for a good price. Finally heal up and head for the gym. Inside the gym (The building that looks like the one in Petalburg) There are two trainers. You could optionally battle them for a lot of experience points or you can go through the simple maze around them. You have to battle the lady on the platform. Her name is Roxanne (As in Rock so she is a rock type Gym leader) She has a level 14 Geodude and a level 15 Nosepass. In Emereald she has 2 level 12 Geodudes and a level 15 Nosepass. Just defeat her with water guns and Mud Slaps for Mudkip (If you have a Mashtomp with Mud Shot, Great!) , Absorbs for Treecko and Double Kicks for Combusken (You have evolved it a Combusken right?)
This simple strategy never fails but beware of her Nosepass, she keeps healing it. To defeat the Nosepass use and attack to make it's HP yellow (Lower than half but not red) and then your best attack (the ones that I suggested) to defeat it. If you cannot take it out without allowing her to heal it, Then don't worry as she can only use 3 potions. After that she will only attack. If you die you will be sent back to the last Pokemon Center you visited. (Hopefully you had been to the Rustboro Pokemon Center before battling her or else you will have to go to either Petalburg and if not there Oldale and if not there your house and you will have to run all the way back here...
Defeat her only to get the Stone badge and Tm 39 Rock tomb. Save the TM and use it at your time of need. I also suggest you save the game just in case... Then continue.

The moment you walk out of the gym, The man you met in Petalburg Woods will meet you and ask you for help. You don't have a choice in these games so just run up and go right. There will be some grass (And a few trees to cut if you want to try out the move Cut) and trainers and at the extreme right there will be an old man near a cave. (Make sure you catch a Tailow here and train it too). Go talk to him and go inside the cave and battle the Team Aqua/ Magma. Defeat him and he will give you back the item which he stole and then all you have to do is return them to the man who asked for help (He will still be where he left you. Then he will take you to his boss at the big orange building and ask you to deliver a few items as well as give you the PokeNav or Pokemon Navigator)

The old man would have introduced himself as Mr. Briney and he is the next client to meet. (His house is in Petalburg town so you have to go down through the Petalburg woods by jumping the fences down). In Petalburg his house is the one near the beach and the entrance to the Woods he will be chasing his Wingull. Just somehow manage to talk to him. Then he will ask if you want to go to Dewford town. IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH POTIONS then say Yes or else say no and buy a few 'coz Dewford Town has the next gym. And the Tailow also better be at a level 15 or so because it has an advantage against the next gym. Go to Dewford City by the boat and then go to the Pokemon Center. Then go to the Gym (Near the Gym there is a man in red who gives you an old Rod- With which you can face water and use to get Pokemon. With an Old Rod only a Magikarp can be found but other Rods have better effects and you will get these through the game. To fish, face the water and in Key Items find the Old Rod and use. Sometimes it may say that there is "Not even a nibble". In such a case just move somewhere else and try fishing. When the rod shakes and says "Oh a Bite", then immediately press "A" button. Keep doing it until you get the Pokemon. Anyhow lets go and have nice rumble in the gym . If you choose a treecko make sure you have a tailow or a sableye (only in sapphire). Sableye could be caught in the nearby cave. The gym will be like a maze and dark with a little flash of light. Each time you beat a trainer, the light expands. There will be 4 trainers in the gym and the gym leader Brawly. He uses fighting type (in ruby and sapphire he uses a lv 17 machop and a lv 18 makuhita) and (in emerald uses a lv 16 machop and 19 meditite, lv 19 makuhita), he is quite easy if you have a flying type. Just defeat him and the light will expand to maximum . If you beat the gymleader you can use the HM move flash anywhere outside. Now its time to deliver the letter to steven in the near by cave . When you enter the cave there will be a man standing there who will give you the HM move Flash. Teach flash to any one of your pokemon that can learn because when you get on to the ladder which goes down you will only be able to see a small circle of light like when you enter the gym. Finding Steven inside the cave is very easy. Use Flash in every room to light it up and then find the ladder in that room to go to the next (don't go to the same ladder that you came from or else you will be going in circles). in one room you will find a kind of slope that looks different compared to the rest of the cave. Dont bother trying to climb it up yet. You need a bike to climb it. It is very straightforward and you should find him soon. After you find him and give him the letter has a thanks he will give u his favourite HM steel wing. Then if you happen to have an Escape Rope then use it to escape from the cave. Again I suggest you should save your game and then continue.

Go to Mr Briney ,talk to him and choose slateport in the options which appear after u
talk to him

When u reach slateport there will be many trainers onthe beach u enter . At the top left corner there will be a house where there trainer will be there , if u beat all the there trainers talk to the main person in the house to receive half a dozen of soda pop .

Then go up to the city. Slateport city has a lot of items so I will leave that to you to buy or find but just make sure you buy a Harbor Mail at the Mart. Make sure you also go to the contest hall and talk to one of the girls here to get a Pokeblock Case. However in Emerald there wont be a contest hall but instead there is a place where you can battle with different rules called a Battle Tent so if you have Emerald version do check it out. You will also see that the museum will be blocked by team magma/aqua grunts . Go to the building which looks like a ship. There will be a man who is Captian Stern's assistant, talk to him who gives u mission to find capt. stern . Then go to the museum, there wont be any team magma/aqua grunts blocking the way to the museum. Go inside the museum you will find the team magma/aqua . Go to the 2nd floor and you will find Capt. Stern. Talk to him and deliver your devon goods . At that time the team magma/aqua will come and fight you . They are quite easy to defeat and once u defeat them the Magma/Aqua boss will come and talk to u. After that come down and heal your pokemon and go straight north. You will see that path will divide with a fork to the left and right. The left leads to some trainers and some water. If you have HM surf, u can cross the water to Oldale town. The right side is the path u need to go to. Before u go there make sure u restore ur Pokemon. If u follow the path of grass and go up u will find ur rival - May/Brendan. His/her starter will have come to the second stage of evolution so hopefully urs is too. Like I said make sure u have a Tailow to defeat his/her Grovyle if u took my advice on taking Mudkip. Her other Pokemon can be defeated without even trying. If u have a Grovyle then I suggest teaching TM Rock Tomb that you got from the first Gym to a Pokemon that is about level 16. Use Rock tomb on his/her Combusken to defeat it. And if u have a Combusken then it is not too tough to defeat Marshtomp. Just use a few Double Kicks and maintain your HP and that should defeat his/her. Once u have defeated your rival just go along the path till u reach Mauville city at the end of the path. In one of the houses to the bottom left corner of the city will be a man who gives you HM Rock Smash. It can only be used to smash real rocks after completing the 3rd Gym so that should be your next goal. Make sure your Pokemon are around level 25. Wally (who u met at Petalburg city Gym) will battle u after u talk to him (he is standing at the gym's doorstep) He is very easy so defeat him, and get equipped for your third Gym battle. Solve the Electric switch maze and then battle the Gym Leader. Wattson has a level 22 Magnemite, a level 20 Voltorb, and a level 23 Magneton. In Emerald he has a level 22 Electrike, a level 22 Magneton and a level 24 Manectric. It is very easy to defeat Wattson for all those who chose Mudkip as their starter. It is also quite easy for those who chose Torchic but it will be difficult if u start as Treecko. Marshtomp should defeat every Pokemon with Mud Shot or a few Mud Slaps. Combusken can defeat Wattson's Magnemites or Magnetons with any fire attack but grass type Pokemon have to suffer by using some other wild Pokemon that they have caught. Defeat him and get the Dynamo badge as well as TM Shock Wave. Now get your next Key Item- the Bike. Yes! In the little shop with bikes to the left of it is a man named Rydel. He gives you a choice of either the Acro Bike or Mach Bike. Acro bike can be used to do wheelies and hop on your bike therefore allowing you to hop over thin strips of land but rather slowly. The Mach Bike cannot do any tricks but it goes extremely fast- twice as fast as the running shoes so this can be used to climb up hills to a higher level like the one in Dewford Cave and speed over cracks on the ground in some caves without falling through them. I cannot help u choose any one because both are very useful but if u are not too keen on collecting items then I suggest the Mach Bike. Now with ur bike you can go down the Cycling road-a short cut from Mauville to Slateport. If u r up for some thunder type battling the cycling road is the place but if that is not enough then head left from Mauvlle city to grassy area with lots of good trainers. Along with these trainers is a house which can be clearly seen when u walk left from Mauville city called the Daycare Centre. This is a very important place for those lazy or tired trainers OR trainers who hate to battle. Here you can store upto 2 Pokemon and then walk around when you come back the Pokemon would have grown exactly as much Exp Points as the no. of steps you had talking including steps on a bike. They charge hundred + hundred multiplied by every level gained. If u place 2 Pokemon of opposite gender that are "compatible" then they will lay an egg after a specific number of steps- about 200. This egg will hatch into the very first stage of the female Pokemon that you had stored. After a few thousand steps after retrieving the egg the egg will hatch with attacks of both the male and female Pokemon but only at level 5. This is very useful so dont forget its location. After checking out the trainers here make sure you walk all the way left from this place to Verdanturf town. Here you will find the second Contest Hall but in Emerald you will find your second battle tent. Go inside the cave you see and use Rock Smash (you should know how by now) on any of the two boulders you see. The man will be so happy and present you with HM Strength. Yes, this is the cave you visited earlier. Its easy to guess since the only Pokemon that comes in this cave is Whismur. Now return to Mauville and again equip yourself for a lot of battling. What you are up for next is much harder than all the 3 Gyms you have faced put together. Save and Continue.

Now go north and break either of the 2 rocks you see. You may encounter a Geodude while doing so. Go north still until you reach a desert. You cant cross it, so go left. There will be a few trainers defeat them and go up the steps. There will be a few hikers and a cable car. The cable car cannot be used so go into the small cave you see. The cave is called Fiery Path. Inside you will find Numel, Machop, geodude etc. Go straight up and right and you will find the exit. Once you come out you will see some berries and a few trainers. You will also see a boy facing a tree. Talk to him and get TM Secret Power. Teach it to a Pokemon if you want and use it on the tree like when you use a HM. This becomes your Secret Base. You can make your base somewhere else so dont despair if the layout for this base is not to your liking. Go right from there and go up. Once you go up pick up the berries you see and talk to the girl on the right of the berries. She too will give you some berries. Come and talk to her everyday and she will give you a berry every time. There is also a house on the right that has an old lady who heals your Pokemon completely. Then go left from this place (left from the berries) and you will see that it has begun to snow. Actually it is not snow but just the ash from MT. Chimney which you will be visiting in a short while but for now just go left. You will see a house, in this place, outside which stands an old man. Just go inside the house and talk to the person inside and you will get a soot sack. Walk the number of steps he asked you to walk in the ash and then talk to him if you want. He will exchange the soot/ash for any item that he displays. This is not necesasary so do this if you want and then go completely left until you reach a new town called Fallarboar town. Here you will find your third contest hall/ Battle tent. Go to the Pokemon center and restore your Pokemon. You will see a girl blocking the computer. Talk to her. She will go away. Then go out of Fallarboar town to the left you will see a house. Go inside and talk to the small boy. He will give you TM Dig. Then come out and talk the man with his Poochyena by his side. He will give you TM Roar.

Then head down the bridge and into a grassy place. Get inside the house and you will see the girl you saw at the Pokemon Center. She will give you a Pokemon doll to decorate your Pokemon Base. Then go to the bottom left part of this grassy are and you will see a mountain. Follow the path round the mountain from there and at the end of it after defeating the trainers you will see a cave. The cave is called Meteor Falls. Go inside and watch the Team Aqua/ Team Magma tell you a few unimportant things and then leave. Now that they have gone, the Cable car is now open. So come out of Meteor Falls and trace your path back to Fallarboar town through the place where the ash is falling (the old lady is still there to heal your Pokemon) and all the way back to the Fiery Path. Come out to the original entrance of Fiery Path and go to the Cable Car. Battle Team Aqua/Magma and then go into the building. Take the cable car all the way to Mt. Chimney.
